An exhibition of the works of Millais opens tomorrow at the Tate Britain. I was in London yesterday, and noticed a poster at the Covent Garden tube station.
I have collected a few of Millais's paintings here. The first one is called The Black Brunswicker. The second is called Love. The third is called Mariana. It is the Mariana from Shakepeare's Measure for Measure. Originally, the painting was exhibited with these lines from Tennyson:
She only said, ‘My life is dreary– He cometh not!’ she said;
She said, ‘I am aweary, aweary–I would that I were dead!’
And the last? It is called St. Stephen.
